The Call at 3:18 am

(a novella)

What would you do if you received a call in the middle of the night, claiming that your daughter is in deep trouble? Mr. Millford, the father, didn't like it at all and could not believe that a psychic in Colorado would know what was happening in Connecticut.

Mark Forester, buried himself in back country Colorado, to be as far from people as possible, not to be flooded by their feelings and troubles, often paralyzing him. Yet, when he senses the pain of a missing girl on the other side of the country, he has to help. He uses a neighbor's phone to make contact with the parents. Disbelief is not the only thing he has to fight as he struggles to save the girl from dire peril.

Risking all, Mark pushes for resolution. In his efforts, he makes friends and discovers more of himself.

Notes

This novella was an exercise to get away from overdependence on description and have the dialogue carry most of the story. Also to get into the nuts-and-bolts of a psychic experience. That is, to achive a plausible presentation of how it would feel and work?
